560 RELIGIOUS STUDIES 6: JOURNEY THROUGH THE OLD TESTAMENT
The theme of Grade 6 is Journey. Students will learn about God’s revelation to us through the Old Testament. Students will journey together toward a deeper understanding of Christian beliefs and traditions. The theme is meant to help focus the attention of the young people and to illustrate in a memorable way this fact: that the loving God they meet in their studies is with them in all of their life experiences.

570 RELIGIOUS STUDIES 7: MORALITY; A COURSE ON CATHOLIC LIVING
This course will enable young people to navigate through challenging times with a clear and positive moral attitude that is essential for Catholics in the new millennium. Within this deeper framework of moral decision making, the students will explore the Ten Commandments in greater detail. Likewise, the students will concentrate on gospel formation, the Beatitudes and what it means to live a life of virtue.

580 RELIGIOUS STUDIES 8: GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT IN THE CHURCH
The theme of Grade 8 is Church. Students survey the major historical periods of the Church in order to come to a deeper understanding and appreciation of their heritage. Students will learn that Jesus calls his followers to live lives of compassion, care, and concern for their fellow human beings, particularly those in need. The student will re-examine skills for moral decision making and will be encouraged to develop an understanding and appreciation for the gift of life and human sexuality.

510 RELIGIOUS STUDIES 9: FINDING FAITH — AN EXPLORATION OF THE SCRIPTURES
This course introduces students to concepts of faith formation, and is a comprehensive overview of the Bible, with particular emphasis on the Old Testament. Students are challenged to deepen their understanding of biblical themes and their contemporary applications.

520 RELIGIOUS STUDIES 10: JESUS' WORLD AND THE NEW TESTAMENT
This course fosters a growing, personal relationship with Jesus as students journey through the New Testament. The course will provide an understanding of the historical, cultural, and religious life of Jesus through His own eyes as well as the eyes of the Gospel authors. The course will also enable students to appreciate Jesus' message of love and service as it relates to their own spiritual lives.

540 RELIGIOUS STUDIES 11: CATHOLIC MORALITY
This course will explore moral development, moral decision making, and moral issues. An examination of sin and conscience will also be included. The Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, gospel teachings, and Roman Catholic Church documents will be seen as the basis for making moral decisions in our contemporary society. You will have the opportunity to analyze particular moral issues and all of the complexities that surround them, and determine the moral course of action for each.

533 RELIGIOUS STUDIES 11: CHURCH HISTORY: FROM PETER TO THE PRESENT
Fasten your seat belts as we take a fantastic trip through the life of the Church from Peter to Benedict. We will meet the martyrs, the heretics, the Church councils, and the very special men and women who emerge to direct the Church in good times and bad times. We will focus on the five models of the Church as expressed by Cardinal Avery Dulles, SJ. We will spend time on special sites on the web and see the Church today in action from Haiti to Healthcare. The Church has always had a great influence on our world . . . you will be amazed at what you will learn! The spirit of Jesus is alive and well in our Church today, and you are part of this aliveness!!!

535 RELIGIOUS STUDIES 11: THE FEMALE SOUL
Got faith? Explore the good and bad girls of The Bible and develop an understanding and appreciation of their experience with their faith. Let's set the record straight and learn who they really were and what they have to say to us as women striving for a deeper relationship with God. Through critical study of Scripture and other written materials about these women, you will be encouraged to look to the importance they hold in our spiritual ancestry and the life lessons we can gain from them. The course encourages students to hone their critical thinking skills and have a reflective approach toward the ideas under discussion.

537 RELIGIOUS STUDIES 11: WORLD RELIGIONS
Jews, Christians and Muslims — how are we different and what do we have in common? Realizing understanding is the first step toward peace and tolerance, we will consider the tenets of the three major religions of the world and the inter-connectedness among them. You will also be exposed to the belief systems of Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism.

532 RELIGIOUS STUDIES 12: CHRISTIAN LIFESTYLES
What does it mean to live the life of a single person, a married person, or a member of the religious community in today's world? What Christian values enhance each lifestyle? This course will help you understand the qualities of Christian love, the joys of intimacy, and the components of effective communication , which are all essential to a Christian lifestyle. You will examine each particular lifestyle along with its unique gifts, opportunities, and challenges. You will also learn the essentials of the Sacraments of Matrimony and Holy Orders.

541 RELIGIOUS STUDIES 12: FAITH AND JUSTICE
This course is designed to awaken students to the social dimension of Christian faith and to the critical issues of our day, including human rights, economic and political peace, nuclear disarmament, and the social documents of the Catholic Church. Classroom activities will help students to explore the role of the individual, the Church, and governments in justice issues. The students are awakened to a Christian commitment to create peace and social justice and, that each person is called in solidarity to be responsible for the welfare of the human family.

544 RELIGIOUS STUDIES 12: MEDICAL ETHICS
Each of us encounters ethics every day, whether we are aware of it or not. We cannot avoid situations that force us to make ethical choices because ethics cuts across every facet of our lives. There really is no part of human life that is ethics-free—not politics, not sports, not journalism, not medicine, not education, not marriage, not friendships. This course will investigate particular areas of moral concern in light of Catholic Christian ethical principles. Areas included are: abortion, euthanasia, assisted suicide, end of life issues, cloning, stem cell research, genetic engineering, health care reform.

547 RELIGIOUS STUDIES 12: MTV: MEDIA TALKS VALUES
This course is designed to examine the challenges of being a Christian living in a media culture and how we can follow Christ in a society fueled by consumerism. During the semester, students will have the opportunity to see that the values of our culture are manipulated by the media. Students will learn how to assess music, television, advertising, newspapers, magazines and films. Students will evaluate and analyze media in the light of the Gospel message and address conflicts or agreements between the message of Jesus and the message of the media.
