STUDENT SERVICES
Recognizing the pressures and challenges that confront today's young women, Ursuline has in place extensive guidance and counseling services.
ADVISEMENT
Every student has a faculty advisor who meets with her regularly, helps her plan her schedule, and reviews her academic progress. Parent - Advisor conferences are also held during the school year.
COUNSELING
In addition to academic guidance, a staff of four provides individual counseling, organizes groups based on student need and interest, and arranges programs for parents.
COLLEGE GUIDANCE
College guidance begins in the sophomore year and includes classes and individual meetings as well as programs and individual meetings with parents. One hundred percent of Ursuline students continue their education in college. Recent graduating classes won over $16 million in academic scholarships and were accepted at more than 180 colleges and universities, including ivy-league schools.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION
This program is available for grades 6-9 and helps students address such issues as self-esteem, relationships with peers and parents, conflict resolution, decision-making, good choices, and diversity. It teaches and empowers students to make their lives successful--socially, academically, and personally. Juniors and seniors are trained as Peer Counselors and Peer Mediators to assist with the Personal Development Program and with mediation at any level.
PEER COUNSELING & PEER MEDIATION
Peer Counseling originated at Ursuline in 1979, with 11th grade Peer Counselors trained to lead freshman orientation groups. It has grown in size and scope, with Peer Mediation introduced in 1996. Peer Counselors and Peer Mediators meet for weekly training and special leadership seminars. They work with grades 6 through 9 in Personal Development, and senior Peer Mediators are also trained to mediate problems among students.
PEER MINISTRY
In addition to religion classes, a retreat program at all grade levels gives students the opportunity to reflect on their relationship with God and with others. Juniors and seniors trained as Peer Ministers help direct these retreats.
